On December 2, 2003, the inception workshop of the UNDP/GEF/Committee on Energy Efficiency Project BYE/03/G31 "Biomass Energy for Heating and Hot Water Supply in Belarus" took place.

The purpose of the workshop is to present project, its concept, objectives, outcome and activities for the implementation stage to stakeholders: specialists in the field of efficient energy use, wood processing and environmental protection.

Another important purpose of the workshop is to provide project coverage for the public via mass media.

47 specialists attended the workshop representing the UN Office in Belarus, Council of Ministers, Committee on Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Ministry of Economy, Committee of Forest Management, BelLesBumProm Concern, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Belarusian State Technological University, Belarusian National Technical University and other institutes and organizations concerned.

Immediate workshops, conferences under the scope of the project: June 2004's second week.

A workshop on collection, processing and transportation of wood waste.

It is envisaged that the workshop will discuss Belarus-specific technology for harvesting and processing of wood waste formed as a result of logging, sanitary logging and improvement harvesting, as well as equipment and vehicles used for these purposes.

Expectations are high that specialists in logging and forest upkeep, and manufacturers of necessary equipment will attend the workshop.
