Seminar:
“Sustainable Development National Plan and Replication of the Project Results”
Minsk, Belarus, December 05, 2006
The seminar is conducted within the project “Biomass Energy for Heating and Hot Water Supply in Belarus” (BYE/03/G31).
The main objective of increasing of Belarus economic efficiency is to provide the growth of gross domestic product (GDP) without extending fuel and energy resources (FER) consumption as well as maximal reduction of energy resources import.
The accomplishment of this task will become possible due to the development in Belarus of the respective infrastructure promoting the use of local energy resources and alternative energy sources in the heat and power generation by ensuring economically feasible conditions of their production and consumption and at the same time observing the required environmental conditions. Search of an adequate alternative to fossil fuel has led to increasing popularity of biomass at fuel markets of many countries. In perspective wood and wood processing wastes can meet up to 10% of primary energy needs of Belarus. At present Belarus is on the list of the countries whose annual stand growth exceeds the volume of logging. Increase of production and use of wood as fuel will contribute to the improvement of energy security, development of new directions in engineering, creation of new jobs, development of scientific-research and industrial engineering.
The seminar objective is to consider and discuss of technical, economic, ecological, financial, legislative and social aspects of wide utilization of firewood.
Leadership of different state authorities and departments, directors and specialists of state and private organizations, scientists and specialists of leading scientific institutes, foreign specialists working in energy efficiency, environment protection, production and utilization of biomass will take part in the seminar.
